This is a strange one.
I went to watch COSMOPOLIS after reading the piece that Sight & Sound had dedicated to it, analyzing it in detail, and after hearing the comments of a friend of mine who had deeply loathed it.
I went to watch Cosmopolis as if I already had the film in my head, almost frame by frame, already interpreted by others for me, having high and low expectations at the same time.
I don’t know if I liked Cosmopolis. As the characters talked to each others, I understood that the author of the original novel had very important points to make about modern society - points that are complex and articulate and need to be reflected upon to be fully appreciated.
As the credits rolled, I didn’t know if I liked it or not - but I knew it made me want to read the book.
Is that enough?
